Limbs is a sculptural installation composed of oversized doll parts, hand built in black clay and fired, piled into a galvanised steel wheelbarrow. The wheelbarrow’s functional components, its rubber wheel and plastic handles, have been replaced with ceramic equivalents. The object can no longer carry anything.

The work responds to the visual and affective weight of war reporting and the recurring images of children killed in conflict. Black is the colour of mourning. The doll, a form associated with care and childhood, is here fragmented, oversized and rendered in the colour of grief. Its uncanniness is deliberate. The wheelbarrow, a tool for carrying and displacing, evokes both the domestic and the industrial, the movement of belongings across borders.

Limbs sits within a broader sculptural practice concerned with loss, witness and the ethics of attention. It refuses to look away.
